09/02/2011 - THE 2011 INDUSTRY LEARNING PLACE

The  Collision Repair Expo will be the 2011 must attend venue for key meetings of industry bodies, education and training organisations.

In addition to bringing the latest in workshop equipment and surface finish products to trade visitors, the Expo will feature a high level  International Seminar program and a range of special conferences and meetings convened by leading industry groups.

Hosted by the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), the Collision Repair Expo will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from Thursday 12 May to Saturday 14 May, 2011.

AAAA Executive Director Stuart Charity welcomed industry groups' initiatives to use the Expo as a base for their events.

"This Expo is organised for the industry by a committee of collision industry representatives. They are delighted that education and training organisations, as well as a number of key collision industry bodies, plan to hold major events in Melbourne during the Expo," he said.

"Among the co-located activities will be a Vehicle Body TAFE Teachers Conference, a Collision Repair Association of New Zealand Conference, an IBIS Australia Conference, the National Collision Repairer Lifetime Achievement Awards, AARN National Conference and others to be announced. These events create an exciting synergy between the various sectors in the industry, such as educators, trainers, government officials, assessors, insurers, as well as the manufacturers and suppliers.

"We believe the Expo is performing an important function by providing a venue for learning and bringing together people who rarely have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas across those sectors. The Expo committee is now finalising plans for the International Seminar, which will feature leading speakers from all aspects of the industry, and will release the program soon," Mr Charity said.

TAFE Teachers Conference

An important educators meeting timed to coincide with the Collision Repair Expo will be the 20th national biennial Vehicle Body TAFE Teachers Conference. With the ambitious title 'Keeping ahead of change' this Conference will be held from May 10 to 14 and will feature sessions at the Kangan Institute Automotive Centre of Excellence.

Queensland based TAFE Teachers Conference coordinator Morgan Ison said these conferences were launched in the late 1960s to foster national consistency in technical education, training and assessment through collaboration across state borders.

"This conference initiative has helped to progress the industry training reform agenda and has led to the national TAFE Wordskill and colour matching student competitions," he said.

Initial information is available on the Conference website www.btvbtc.com.au

Exhibitors present the latest

Mr Charity said the stars of the Expo are the exhibitors.

"They will present the latest paint products and application systems, chemicals and surface preparations, collision repair tools and equipment, replacement panels, parts and frames, computer software and hardware," he said.

"With all exhibition space nearly  sold out, this Expo will attract record crowds. As this is a trade only show, only people working in the industry are allowed entry. Many of the displays will be highly topical with product and services addressing current market needs."

Eliminate compressor 'floods'

Record rainfall and high humidity over recent months has highlighted the need to maintain and upgrade workshop compressed air systems. Expo exhibitor StorkAWD believes a regular maintenance and upgrade program for workshop compressor pumps and inline filters is essential.

StorkAWD Marketing Coordinator Anthony Philp explained:"Air compressors produce compressed air and moisture. Compressing air, then forcing it air through a small orifice, creates friction. The heat generated transforms moisture in the compressed air into gas. When that air cools, the gas condenses as a liquid.

"For instance, a 7.5 Kva (10Hp) compressor operating in 44°C with relative 40 percent humidity can produce approximately 10 litres of condensation a day. The same compressor operating at 32°C with 70 percent humidity can produce 50 litres a day.

"All pneumatically operated equipment is operates most efficiently and with greater durability using clean dry air and correct lubrication. When spray painting with compressed air, it is essential to have clean dry air to eliminate moisture blemishes and blisters.

"The ultra-absorbent desiccant chemical in the Supa Eliminator air dryer delivers moisture free biodegradable super dry air, which will not support bacteria. The Supa Eliminator will be displayed among other products on our stand," he said.

The company will be a first-time exhibitor at the 2011 Expo and feels the timing is right to unveil the Concept Paints No Mix(r) Low Volatile Organic Compound base coat paint system and its range of ancillary products at this show.

"We have developed an automotive paint system providing a number of positive environmental benefits, without compromising productivity or quality," Mr Kaltoum said.

"This is the only system of its kind in the world and it was developed and patented in Australia."
