07/10/2008 - AAAA TO FUND INDUSTRY INITIATIVES

AAAA National Council has allocated significant resources in its 2008/09 budget for the development and roll out of a range of new industry development initiatives over the next 12 months.

This decision is a direct result of feedback received from AAAA member companies arising from the review of member services that took place during the 2007/08 year.

These funds will assist in delivering regular, targeted and accurate information on industry and product trends to assist AAAA members with their business planning as well as the development of a coordinated government relations strategy covering product and policy advocacy.

The first stage will be the industry research phase which will involve the commissioning of a comprehensive study into the recent changes to the structure of the industry including the decline in local manufacturing, the demise of National Parts, the consolidation of the industry and changes in technology and the car park.

The purpose of the report will be to develop a picture on what the industry might look like in 2015 to enable you take advantage of any opportunities arising out of these changes.

This report will be released next month (November).

In addition AAAA will release regular snapshots that provide data on industry and product trends using a range of information gained from purchased and publicly available data.

This will be in addition to regular information on the 4WD accessories and performance sectors delivered through our specialist Industry Councils.

The AAAA Government relations strategy will cover both Product Advocacy (legislation and regulation relating to product standards, transport, environment, consumer affairs etc) and Policy Advocacy (relationships with federal and state parliamentarians, Ministers, advisors, departmental staff and access to government assistance programs).

The product advocacy strategy will include a review of AAAA's current activities in the context of changing political imperatives to ensure that the organisation is well positioned to respond to future issues, opportunities and challenges that the industry will face.

The policy advocacy strategy will involve the development of an integrated and coordinated approach to AAAA's relationship with the range of government agencies that impact on the automotive aftermarket with the objective of establishing credibility through the development of key messages which are consistent, well researched and emphasise the broader benefits to the national economy that AAAA's members make, including employment, export and manufacturing contributions.

Beyond the economic impact, AAAA's members also provide important sectoral input on issues including road safety, transport, and R&D.

In tandem with this AAAA is in the early stages of development of a major industry wide consumer focused strategy that will aim to raise the profile and reputation of the independent aftermarket and protect free and open competition.

These are important initiatives in the further growth and development of the AAAA and come at a critical time for our industry.
